Section 5(a) (1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that, employees were exposed to crushing injuries in the event of a catastrophic failure of the hydraulic systems on automotive lifts. a) 1200 Zerega Ave Bronx, NY: The employer failed to conduct periodic inspections which would have identified hazards such as, but not limited to metal shavings on Mohawk,Model LMF12 lift #6, on or about 12/3/08. One feasible and acceptable method of abatement is to follow the guidance set forth in ANSI/ALI ALOIM-1994 "Safety Requirements For Operation, Inspection and Maintenance", Section 5.1 "Qualified Inspection Procedure", provided by the Automotive Lift Institute. NOTE: In addition to abatement certification, the employer is required to submit abatement documentation for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19.
