Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being crushed, struck or pinned by a falling automobile: Location: Automotive Service Shop; On or about May 2, 2008, the five Mohawk Tomahawk- 9000, 9000lb capacity Two Post Vehicle and the two in ground lifts were not inspected. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS: a) Follow the automobile lift inspection, service, maintenance and operation requirements as per the ANSI/ALI standard ALOIM-2000 (standard for Automotive-Safety Requirements for operation, Inspection and maintenance); the Lifting It Right safety manual from the Automotive Lift Institute and the Mohawk Tomahawk-9000, 9,000lb Capacity Two Post Vehicle Lift Manual. b) Develop and implement an automobile lift program to include records of periodic and annual inspections, preventive maintenance, service, and repairs of all lifts and operator training as per the Ansi/Ali ALIOM-2000; the Lifting It Right safety manual from the Automotive Lift Institute and the Mohawk Tomahawk-9000, 9,000lb Capacity Two Post Vehicle Lift Manual.
