Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free of recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by or crushed by the powered industrial trucks in the event of an upset: a)establishment, shipping and receiving area-an employee operates a forklift to load and unload trucks. The employee was not wearing the seatbelt provided on the forklift which could result in the employee being thrown from the lift truck, resulting in being struck by or crushed, in case of a vehicular accident. One feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to provide refresher training for the employees and enforce a disciplinary policy requiring employees to use the seatbelt available when operating the lift.
