Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: ELECTRIC
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to impalement hazards from vertical protruding electrical conduit that projects above the floor: a) On or about 7/12/07, at the Central Dining Hall of SUNY Alfred in the kitchen area; the 1/2" diameter conduit sticking up out the concrete floor (18 inches), where employees were framing soffits, was not protected or covered. One suitable and feasible means of abatement for this hazard, among others, is to cover or protect the conduit with devices and/or methods used to protect rebar. NO ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
