Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to potential crushing hazards from falling loads and/or lift parts: (a) At the Devils Lake Chrysler Center for employees in the service department working around and under the Hanmecson (2) post auto lift where the annual inspection, preventative maintenance program, and employee training were not implemented. (b) At the Devils Lake Chrysler Center for employees in the service department working around and under the two Forward (2) post auto lifts where the annual inspection, preventative maintenance program, and employee training were not implemented. (c) At the Devils Lake Chrysler Center for employees in the service department working around and under the (2) dual cylinder in-ground hoists where the annual inspection, preventative maintenance program, and employee training were not implemented. Abatement Note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement would be to follow the requirements of ANSI/ALI ALOIM and/or ANSI B153.1 which includes, among other requirements, the following: 1.Institute a preventive maintenance program according to the manufacturer's specifications. 2.Provide training to employees on proper use and care of the lifts. 3.Ensure all lifts are rated and marked with their load capacity. 4.Schedule and complete all periodic and annual inspections.
