Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: GUARDING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to avulsion hazards in that the employer did not comply with the mandatory language in accordance with ANSI L1.1-1972; Safety Requirements For The Textile Industry - Section 8.5 Conveyors: Blending Dept., 1A Blender - The two wall mounted emergency stops to the blender with two internal conveyors, one moved the flock to the spike apron with 3/4" long spikes, which in turn conveyed the flock onto a table and eventually into the baler were not adequate in that they were not readily accessible for cleaning the spike apron and underneath the area. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct the following hazard is to install an emergency stop cable around the blender at a feasible height.
