Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: GUARDING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being entangled in the roll grinding machine: a)Roll and Belt Department: Employee working in close proximity to the #57 RJ International parabolic roll grinding machine (model number 6020, serial number 2120), was exposed to the hazard of entanglement in the moving parts of the machine, in that employee was permitted to wear loose clothing, specifically a hooded sweat shirt, while engaged in work, on or about 11/19/2007. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to: 1:Implement a policy (dress code) prohibiting the wearing of loose clothing in proximity to moving parts of the roll grinding machine and other equipment with moving or rotating parts. As described in ANSI B11.6-2001, Section 4.3, operator shall comply with the instructions of the user concerning safe methods of operation of the machine to include not wearing of clothing or jewelry that will present a hazard to their personal safety. It should be noted that the term user means the entity that utilizes machines and related equipment and is responsible for overall workplace safety, maintenance and inspection procedures, and training.
