Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: BURNS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to thermal burns: On or about January 17, 2008: (a)The employer did not ensure that pipes and kettles in the Processing Rooms were covered to prevent employees from making contact with the bare metal. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct the hazards is to insulate each pipe and/or kettle to prevent employee contact. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).
