Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: GUARDING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Date: June 15, 2007 Location: 155 Howell Bridge Road, Ballground, Georgia Equipment: JLG Aerial Lift, Model 400S, S/N 334622 Condition: Two employees were observed working at an elevation of approximately 16 feet above the ground and they were not restrained in the basket of the aerial lift in such a manner that they would remain in the basket. (ANS/SIA A92.2-1990, Section 10.2) Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement to correct this hazard is to: Provide each employee working in the basket with a harness and lanyard. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition, documentation demonstrating that abatement is complete must be included with your certification. This documentation may include, but is not limited to, evidence of the purchase or repair of the equipment, photographic or video evidence of abatement, or other written records.
