Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to hazards of being crushed by scrap garbage containers: a) Loading Dock/Yard Area: Employees are not protected from the hazard of being crushed by garbage containers. Violation disclosed on or about 4/28/2007. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to develop and enforce a written standard operating procedure for yard workers and powered industrial vehicle operators in safe operating procedures and clearance distance to employees working in the area where powered industrial vehicles are operating in accordance with Safety Standard for Low Lift and High Lift Trucks, ASME B56.1-2000, Section 4.19.4 and Section 5.
