Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: UNAPEQUIP
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Main aisle adjacent to the Lab Por area on or about May 01, 2008: The plumbed eyewash unit adjacent to the Lab Por area was not properly maintained. When the eyewash unit was activated during the walk around inspection, the water that was emitted was a dark brown in color, appearing to be contaminated with rust and other sediment build-up. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION NOT REQUIRED Among other methods, feasible and acceptable methods to correct the hazardous condition may include: Ensure that eyewash units are activated at least weekly to ensure proper operation and to flush out sediments that may accumulate in the plumbed lines as stipulated in ANSI standard Z358.1-1990.
