Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to falls from elevation: a)job site, steam pit # 1 & 2 - where employees were required to climb on top of unsecured and unstable logs to place and remove tarps at heights up to approximately 14'. Feasible and acceptable abatement methods, among others, to correct this hazard would be to: (1) keep employee(s) off completely and away from the pile of logs. (2) enclose the log pile with in a custom concrete frame with a permanent tarp cover.
