Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a struck-by hazard from vehicular traffic: a) Site - Southbound entrance ramp to I-75 at Fowler Avenue, Temple Terrace, FL. - A procedure was not established for employees to safely cross busy thoroughfares when they are engaged in taking measurements and/or other work-related activities that may distract their attention from on-coming traffic. On or about 2/7/07. ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD OF ABATEMENT WOULD BE TO: 1. Provide a spotter or signal person to assist employees in crossing thoroughfares safely, especially when their attention may be diverted by other simultaneous activities, such as taking measurements.
