Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fire and explosion hazards: (a)Wood Department - Dusttight hoods or enclosures were not provided on the Nelmor grinder "brickmaking" operation to minimize airborne combustible wood dust particles, on or about July 9, 2008. VERIFICATION REQUIRED ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to comply with the National Fire Protection (NFPA) 664, "Standard for the Prevention of Fires and Explosions in Wood Processing and Woodworking Facilities" (2007 Edition) as it applies to your operations and equipment including but not limited to the following: *Locate and design hoods or enclosures such that the wood dust or particulate generated will fall, be projected, or be drawn into the hood(s) or enclosure(s) so as to minimize fugitive dust emissions without interfering with the safe and satisfactory operation of the machine in accordance with Section 8.2.2.3.1.
