Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: BURNS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to Burn Hazards: a)On or about 3/10/08, Well #2 Drill Site: The employer did not ensure that the well could be shut down immediately in the case of a blow out, and that well control could be maintained at all times. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable means of abatement is to; 1) Comply with American Petroleum Institute, RP53, Recommended Practices for Blowout Prevention Equipment Systems for Drilling Wells, 1997, Paragraph 12.8. 2) Comply with American Petroleum Institute, RP54, Recommended Practice for Occupational Safety for Oil and Gas Well Drilling and Servicing Operations 2007, Paragraph 6.1.1. 3) Ensure that the BOP controls are constantly manned or immediately accessible to the driller.
