Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by the load should the below-the-hook lifting devices fail: a)Finish Dept., on or about 5/2/07: Two below-the-hook lifting devices used for lifting grinding wheels had no rated load capacity markings, no inspection were performed and one device had loose fasteners. b)Mold Dept., on or about 5/2/07: Eight spider type below-the-hook lifting devices used for lifting tote bags of compound materials had not been inspected. Among other methods, several feasible and acceptable methods to correct these hazards are to: 1.Mark the rated load of the lifting device on the main structure or equivalent in accordance with ANSI B30.20-1993 Section 20-1.2.1. 2.Inspect the lifting devices in accordance with ANSI B30.20-1993 Section 20- 1.3. 3.Make appropriate adjustments/repairs to the devices from these inspections. Abatement certification must be submitted for these items.
