Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that, employees were exposed to the hazards associated being crushed by or struck by falling objects: Raw Materials Warehouse & Cooler: On or about March 4, 2008, the steel storage rack system used to store raw materials for food products was not installed with collision protection for the bottom portions of the frames as well as the slide horizontal beams to prevent damage or collapse of the racks. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to provide column protectors and/or steel clad impact panels.
