Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards while traveling on potentially dangerous icy roads: a) On or about January 30, 2008 and at times prior, Santa Clara, LLC. did not ensure that employees were protected from road hazards. Employees were not trained in safe vehicle control in extreme driving conditions and the principles of emergency maneuvers. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazardous condition would be to develop a driver training program that addresses the elements listed under 49 CFR 383.111, and then ensure all drivers are trained prior to operating vehicles. Abatement Note: Abatement certification is required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").
