Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being crushed by the rotating tracks of the Bombardier BR 350 snowcat: a) On or about January 21, 2007, the employer did not ensure that employees operating a Bombardier BR 350 snowcat were protected from crushing injuries in that the arm rest and driver door safety switches designed to activate the automatic braking system had been by-passed making the safety switches inoperative. One feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to ensure that the specific "warning" and "caution" recommendations outlined in the manufacturer's Service Guide and Operator's Guide are adhered to. Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation is required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").-Certification
