Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LACKTRAIN
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning: Workplace - The employer failed to immediately send employees for medical evaluation after seeing that they were exhibiting symptoms of carbon monoxide (CO) exposure. Confirmation of CO poisoning comes from a carboxyhemoglobin test that measures the amount of CO that is bound to hemoglobin in the body, and where the blood is drawn as soon as possible after suspected exposure to CO. Employees were tested for carboxyhemoglobin some 10 hours after suspected exposure. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to have management and employees trained on the hazards and procedures to follow for suspect carbon monoxide poisoning along with a CO alarm system.ng
