Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falls from elevated work platform placed on the forks of a powered industrial truck in that: On or about September 28, 2006, a platform that did not have a midrail on the left and only had a loose light duty chain on the right side was used to lift the maintenance man to a height of approximately 12 feet above the floor to change a fluorescent light. In addition, there was no device used to secure the platform to the mast in the event the mast was inadvertently tilted forward. One feasible and useful method to correct these hazards is to use a safety platform that has standard guardrailing on all sides and means of secure the platform to the mast.
