Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CHEMICAL
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the following hazards: (a)On or about 1/11/07, at Richardson Well #17, Rig #9, outside Post TX: Employees were exposed to fire and hazardous chemical exposure due to not having hydrogen sulfide monitoring systems in place while conducting well servicing operations. (b)On or about 1/11/07, at Richardson Well #17, Rig #9, outside Post TX: The derrickman was exposed to fire and explosion hazards due to not having the geronimo line in place while conducting well servicing operations. (c)On or about 1/11/07, at Richardson Well #17, Rig #9, outside Post TX: Employees were exposed to fire and struck by hazards due to having vehicles parked within the guy wires while conducting well servicing operations. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to follow American Petroleum Institute (API) RP 54 which requires the use of H2S detection equipment; emergency escape lines for the derrickman; and restricts the parking of vehicles within the fall line of the derrick.
