Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a) Near the intersection of Washington Street and 44th Avenue South, Grand Forks, ND, where the work platform supported by an all terrain forklift exceeded the overall outside width of the forklift wheel base by more than 10 inches on either side and exposed the employee on the work platform to a potential fall hazard of approximately 12 feet. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to follow the guidelines set forth by ANSI B56.6 Safety Standard for Rough Terrain Forklift Trucks, Section 8.25.1(b), which states: "The platform shall not have a width greater than the overall width of the truck measured across the load bearing tires plus 10 inches (250 mm) on either side."
