Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees could be exposed to crushing injuries from improper lifting of metal plate connected wood trusses: a. On or about 9/13/07 the employer was using a spreader bar with two attachment hooks instead of a stiffback device to lift 80 foot trusses. 1. AMONG OTHERS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD OF ABATEMENT FOR THIS HAZARD IS: Develop and utilize a truss lifting procedure which meets or exceeds the specifications of the Wood Truss Council of America and Truss Plate Institute publication BCSI 10-06,"Guide to Good Practice for Handling, Installing & Bracing of Metal Plate Connected Wood Trusses"; section BCSI-B1 and B2 "Guide for Handling, Installing, Restraining & Bracing of Trusses and Truss Installation & Temporary Restraint/Bracing".
