Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing injuries: a. On or about 9/13/07, worksite, employees were exposed to crushing injuries while installing metal plate connected wood trusses without diagonal bracing and inadequate lateral bracing during construction of a wood framed building. AMONG OTHERS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD OF ABATEMENT FOR THIS HAZARD IS: 1. Develop and utilize a truss installation and bracing procedure which meets or exceeds the specifications of the Wood Truss Council of America and Truss Plate Institute publication BSCI 10-06, "Guide to Good Practice for Handling, Installing, Restraining & Bracing of Metal Plate Connected Wood Trusses"; section BSCI-B1 & B2: "Guide for Handling, Installing, Restraining & Bracing of Trusses and Truss Installation & Temporary Restraint/Bracing".0$y0 T
