Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck by hazards from unguarded work: In the heavy equipment maintenance shop, on or about October 13, 2006, and on dates prior thereto, employee(s) were exposed to struck by hazards created by the use of the high pressure hydraulic Porta Power unit and the associated work pieces being used to install a bearing/bushing. Feasible methods to abate this hazard include, but are not limited to the following: a.Ensure the danger zone/work area is barricaded so no employees are exposed to a struck by hazard. b.Ensure the area where the bearing/bushing is being pressed in or where similar work is being conducted is guarded so no flying parts could strike an employee.
