Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing and struck-by hazards: a) Shop - At least six in-ground automotive lifts were not marked as to lifting capacity, automotive lifts in the back bay area had inoperative safety latches on the arms and missing pads on some arms, and an automotive lift in the back bay area had a loose post. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to comply with the requirements of ANSI/ALI ALOIM-2000, Standard for Automotive Lifts - Safety Requirements for Operation, Inspection and Maintenance, sections 4, 5, and 6.
