Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: UNAPOPPROC
Title 40.1-51.1.(a); Code of Virginia: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that personnel were being lifted to elevations by a powered industrial truck whose manufacturer prohibited the truck from being used in this manner. At their job site on Warrior Drive, Stephens City, Va., employees were conducting commercial roofing work from a fabricated personnel basket secured to the forks of a GEHL 663 rough terrain industrial truck. The operator's manual for this industrial truck prohibits its use as a lift for personnel. One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others, to correct this hazard is to comply with the manufacturer operations manual. The manufacturer operations manual clearly states; " NEVER allow any riders on this machine or use it as a lift for personnel."
