Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck by hazards: a)establishment, veneer mill, lathes 1, 2, & 3 - where underhung hoists such as, but not limited to, a Harrington 1 ton hoist used on the lathes with defects such as, but not limited to, a worn upper hook & suspension lug, not equipped with an end stop, safety latch damaged, jib arm un-leveled and it had not been inspected in the past 12 months. Abatement note: One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others, to correct this hazard is to conduct frequent and periodic inspections of the hoist. [Reference ANSI B30.16-1981, Section 16-2.1.3: Periodic Inspection, Complete inspections of the hoist shall be performed at intervals as defined in 16-2.1.1(b)(2).]
