Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that the employees were exposed to being crushed by fork truck tip over due to overloading. On or about 5/3/06 a)Fork truck on site. The capacity of the fork truck was exceeded while lifting a steel beam and 4 workers needed to stand on the back (in addition to the driver) to counterweight the load, exposing these workers to possible fork truck flip over and crushing the workers. ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD, AMONG OTHERS, TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS: to follow the posted manufacturer precautions and "Do not carry passengers on any part of the truck", and "Do not over load truck". NOTE: THE EMPLOYER IS REQUIRED TO SUBMIT ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION FOR THIS ITEM IN ACCORDANCE WITH 29 CFR 1903.19NCE
