Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing and burning hazards created by unsafe hoist components: At the Worksite - The "bean pot fill" hoist's hook was unsafe as it did not meet the following requirements of ANSI B30.10: a)A handle had been welded onto the hook without manufacturer's approval. b)There was greater than 10wear on the load bearing portion of the hook. c)The manufacturer's identification was not forged or cast on the hook. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct the hazards is to have the hook certified as safe to use by a professional engineer.nal
