Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: UNAPOPPROC
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety & Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm in that employees were exposed to trusses tipping back and forth into each other and catching an employee in between during truss erection: a)South West structure - Paramount Office Park - 1524 W. Cayuse Dr. Meridian, ID: The employer utilizes 7/8" X 1=" X 24" sections of Oriented Strand Board (OSB) in lieu of nominal 2" X 4" stress graded lumber or approved proprietary metal for the Top Cord Temporary Lateral Restraints. This violation was most recently observed on 11/8/06. b)South West structure - Paramount Office Park - 1524 W. Cayuse Dr. Meridian, ID: The employer utilizes a single 8d nail at each end in lieu of two 16d deformed shanked nails at each end to attach the Top Cord Temporary Lateral Restraints to wood trusses. This violation was most recently observed on 11/8/06. c)South West structure - Paramount Office Park - 1524 W. Cayuse Dr. Meridian, ID: The employer only utilizes two rows of Top Cord Temporary Lateral Restraints in lieu of the required row every 8 feet on center. This violation was most recently observed on 11/8/06. Note 1: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be following the temporary bracing requirement for roof truss installation per the Wood Truss Council of America/Truss Place Institute's "Building Component Safety Information: Guide to Good Practices for Handling, Installing, Restraining & Bracing of Metal Plate Connected Wood Trusses". Note 2: Pursuant to 29 CFR 1903.19, the employer must provide documentation of the actions it is taking to ensure full compliance, including a detailed description of the steps it is taking to achieve and maintain compliance.
