Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fall from the top of the shavings trailer: (a) On June 8, 2006, and at times prior thereto, the employer failed to take steps to ensure that no employee stood on the top of the trailer to tarp the load of shavings without fall protection, exposing the employee to a fall hazard of at least 12.8 feet from the top of the shavings trailer. Among other methods, some feasible means of abatement would be: 1. Develop and enforce a policy prohibiting access to tops of trailers. 2. Use fall protection, including, but not limited to providing cat walks with guard rails, or a full body harness and lanyard that are properly secured or a ladder and rake to level the load prior to tarping.. NOTE: ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION IS REQUIRED.TION
