Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: At the establishment, in the shop area, on or about March 13, 2006, an employee was observed operating the Allis Chalmers forklift, and was exposed to the hazard of striking the falling object protective structure (FOPS), and/or other parts of the forklift, and/or striking the ground or other equipment/structures in the area because the forklift was not equipped with a seatbelt. Among other methods, a feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is install and require the use of seatbelts on the forklift.
