Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the rotating blade: (a) Maintenance/Tool Room, East End - The Dayton horizontal band saw, used to cut metal parts, was not equipped with a magnetic restart or equivalent device. The saw was last used on or about on or about March 8, 2006. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard includes but not limited to the following ANSI a American National Standard Institute for Safety Requirements for Metal Sawing Machines ANSI B11.10 - 2003, Section 6.11. All machine controls shall incorporate a type of drive motor starter that will disconnect the drive motor from the power source in the event of control voltage or power system failure. A separate starting operation shall be performed to restart the motor when power conditions are restored to normal. No abatement certification or documentation is required for this item.
