Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5 (a) (1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970. The employer does not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm in that employees are exposed to a fall from an elevated location. a)Employees stand on top of the Lavatec Shuttle/Conveyor at the door to the Lavatec Dryer to unjam a load at the dryer door. This violation was most recently observed on or about March 6, 2007 where employees were not protected from a 6 foot fall to the concrete floor. b)Employees stand on the Lavatec Washer to unjam a load in the hopper. This violation This violation was most recently observed on or about March 5, 2007 where employees were not protected from a 9 foot fall to the concrete floor. Feasible methods to abate this hazard include, but are not limited to the following: provide and ensure the use of fall protection systems and/or a safe means to access the elevated location by use of a ladder stand or other similar equipment. Pursuant to 29 CFR 1903.19, within 10 calendar days, the employer must submit an abatement plan describing the actions it is taking to ensure that employees are protected from falls.
