Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a)Date of Violation:01/24/06 Equipment:1989 LoDal Series Evo Refuse Collection Unit and Compaction Vehicle, License #92H 762, Vehicle #8 Condition:Employees using and operating the refuse collection and compaction vehicle were exposed to hazards such as being struck by and falls from vehicle, crushed by, caught in or between, pinched by moving and rotating equipment parts, had not been trained in safe operation and use of the vehicle. Warning decals for the riding steps were not posted on the vehicle. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to develop comprehensive safety/health training and inspection program for all employees engaged in the operation, maintenance, cleaning, servicing, and repair on refuse collection and compaction equipment in accordance with American National Standards Institute Z245.1-1992, Mobile Refuse Collection and Compaction Equipment-Safety Requirements, and manufacturer's operator and maintenance manuals. Abatement documentation (photographs, receipts, copies of programs, training certification, etc.) is required for this item.
