Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards: (a)At 801 W Young St, Warrensburg, MO - Employees stood on a platform that was elevated by the Clark forklift to perform work such as changing light bulbs and emptying trash into the trash truck, and they were not protected from falling off the platform in that one side of the platform was open and no fall protection devices were worn by employees. While ultimate responsibility for correcting the hazards rests with the employer, given his/her superior knowledge of the workplace, feasible and acceptable methods to correct these hazards, among others, include: (1)Ensure that required restraining means such as railings, chains, cable, body belt(s) with lanyard(s), or deceleration devices are in place and properly used as prescribed in Section 4.17.2 of ASME B56.1-2000, Safety Standard for Low Lift and High Lift Trucks.
