Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards: Near Tank 2: On or about March 6, 2006 a) An employee was exposed to a fall hazard of approximately 11 foot while emptying a 500 gallon drum from a broken lifting platform that was elevated by a fork truck. The platform does not meet the design, construction and use requirements in accordance with ASME B56.1, American Society of Mechanical Engineers Safety Standard. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to: a) provide a safe work platform in accordance with ASME B56.1-2004, American Society of Mechanical Engineers Safety Standard for Low Lift and High Lift Trucks. NOTE: THE EMPLOYER IS REQUIRED TO SUBMIT ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION FOR THIS ITEM IN ACCORDANCE WITH 29 CFR 1903.19.CE
