Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing and caught between hazards in the event of a forklift tipover: On or about January 12, 2006 an employee was operating a Caterpillar Forklift without the use of a restraint system (seat belt). One feasible and acceptable method in correcting this problem would be to enforce the use of seat belts as required by ASME B56.1-1993 Safety Standard for Low Lift and High Lift Trucks. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).
