Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: ELECTRIC
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Production Department, East Wall - The Sears Craftsman vertical band saw, used to cut plastic parts was not equipped with a magnetic restart or similar device. The saw was used last on or about November 1, 2005. (b) Production Department, South Wall - The Rockwell Tiltin cross cut circular table saw, Serial Number 1795574, was not equipped with a magnetic restart or similar device. The saw was last used on or about December 14, 2005. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard includes but not limited to the following: NFPA a National Fire Protection Association Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery NFPA 79 - 2002, Section 7.5.3. Upon restoration of the voltage or upon switching on the incoming supply, automatic or unintentional restarting of the machine shall be prevented when such a restart can cause a hazardous condition. No abatement certification or documentation is required for this item.
