Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by a falling load lifted by the under the hook custom made lifting devices. a)Small Precast Department: Employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by falling material while using a spreader bar for lifting concrete cones weighing over 1000 pounds. b)Vault Storage: Employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by falling material while using a spreader bar for lifting burial vaults weighing approximately 1000 pounds onto the flat bed of a tractor-trailer. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct these hazards are to: Inspect the lifting devices and rate and mark their load capacity ratings in accordance with ASME B30.20 - 1993 (Below the Hook Lifting Devices), Section 20- 1.3 - Inspections and Section 20-1.2 - Marking and Construction.er.
