Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards from storage racks and/or its contents. Specifically: On or about Aug 14, 2007, and times prior to, at the warehouse located at 13713 Stemmons Fwy, in Farmers Branch, TX, employees working near storage racks which were not secured. The employer did not retain load application and storage rack configuration drawings and employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by collapsing warehouse storage racks and/or falling materials. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement is to retain a copy of the load application and rack configuration drawings of the rack installation and ensure the load applications are not exceeded in accordance with ANSI MH16.1 - 1974 section 1.4.4on
