Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by and caught-between hazards: On or about February 20, 2007 and times prior to, at least five employees, who operated a Caterpillar PS-130 pneumatic compactor, were exposed to struck-by and caught-between hazards because the service brake and parking brake were capable of stopping and holding the equipment. AMONG OTHER METHODS, SOME FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE MEANS TO ABATE THESE HAZARDS ARE: a)Repair the service brake system to the manufacture's specifications, the requirements of The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) J1136 Braking Performance Oiler/Compactors standard and the International Standard ISO 3450:1996(E); b)Repair the parking brake system to the manufacturer's specifications, the requirements of The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) J1136 Braking Performance Oiler/Compactors standard and the International Standard ISO 3450:1996(E).
