Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: On or about November 8, 2006, at Diamond Blue Drilling Rig #7, an employee worked from the derrick board without an emergency escape descent device installed and available for use. The employee was exposed to a potential fall from the derrick board in the event of a fire or explosions at the drilling rig platform. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be installation of a properly installed and secured emergency descent or other satisfactory auxiliary means of egress, such as specified in the American Petroleum Institute Recommended Practice for Occupational Safety for Oil and Gas Well Drilling and Servicing Operations, API Recommended Practice 54, Third Edition, August 1999, Section 6.10, Auxiliary Escape.ry
