Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to multiple broken bones and/or death from a fall: Warehouse: Powered Industrial Trucks (PITs) were used to lift personnel to retrieve stocks from overhead storage racks, and the powered industrial trucks were not equipped with properly designed, engineered and secured platforms. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct the hazard is to: 1) Utilize a properly designed, engineered and secured platform in conjunction with a positioning device or body harness with lanyard. 2) Utilize a properly designed, engineered and having adequate height industrial/mobile staircase(s). 3) Utilize other feasible Engineering devices not listed above.
