Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of heat stress: a.Kenova Box Company, Kenova, WV - Employees are exposed to high heat levels when performing tree cutting and clean-up work. The employer had not instituted a heat stress program to protect employees from heat stress/stroke, as determined on 9-6-07. ABATEMENT NOTE: Feasible abatement for this hazard would be implementation of a comprehensive heat stress program consisting of 1.Medical screening and evaluations to identify conditions and medications which may exacerbate exposure to heat 2.Provision of adequate work breaks 3.Provision of adequate fluids 4.Acclimatization schedule for employees away from work 3 or more days 5.Employee Training
