Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(A)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards: On or about 12/19/05, at Buck Hammock Groves Block 2, an employee was exposed to the hazard of being struck and run over by a loader (goat) that was lacking clear visibility to the field of operation while being operated in a grapefruit grove. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to provide protective, clear, see-through windshields on the loaders, instruct its operators on maintaining these windshields clear, clean, and in see-through conditions (ensuring they have a clear view of the trail); and provide employees with refresher training to recognize the hazard of being run- over during the process of picking fruits within the groves. PLEASE NOTE: DOCUMENTATION AND CERTIFICATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
