Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck-by a winch in that: a)Syracuse University Steam Plant, on or about 10/05/06: Employee was working in an underground vault D-50, pulling 8-inch stainless steel pipe through a 10-inch fiberglass pipe with a winch that pulled out of the anchorage striking the employee. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement is to follow the manufacturers General Safety Information, Never Stand Between Load and Winch, as referenced in the Operating Instructions for the Dayton Electric Winch, page 2, General Safety Information. Abatement certification must be submitted for this item.
