Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by equipment such as, but not limited to skidders: a)On or about 8/1/06, Owego Substation: Employees were riding/ working on the top of a metal tank mounted on a skidder. Employees were exposed to crushing hazards in the case of vehicular roll over. Among other methods, two feasible and acceptable means of abatement are: 1) Follow the requirements of ANSI Z133.1, Pruning, Repairing, Maintaining, and removing trees, and cutting brush - safety requirements, section 6.1.7. Which prohibits anyone riding on the equipment. 2) Follow the requirements of the Association of Equipment Manufacturing Skidder Safety Manual, Page 13 and Page 19. Which states to avoid slopes with drop offs, and to prohibit any riders on the equipment. Abatement documentation must be submitted for this item.
